Preparing For Surgery, Speedy Recovery

Question:

I was recently diagnosed with a small hernia. The surgeon would like to do surgery. I was wondering what you would recommend I do to prepare my body for this surgery. As long as there is no pain I can hold off on the surgery for a little while. Possibly a month or two. Are there specific things you recommend before a surgery to get your body prepared? I do not know if during or after the surgery I will be required to take antibiotics. I would rather not, but seeing as how this surgeon is not a holistic type of doctor, I do not see him giving me an alternative. Is there an alternative? If not, will taking a higher dose of the probiotics after the antibiotics are done, reverse the damage caused by the antibiotics?

Answer:

First of all, most hernia surgery is now done on an outpatient basis, is minimally invasive, and does not require antibiotics. Recovery is quick. Pain lasts for one or two days and is easily managed. After that, you will likely experience occasional discomfort for 2-3 weeks. By the way, if possible, the tension-free mesh technique is the best way to go with hernias. So far I have found no alternatives to surgery that effectively repair a hernia.

Now, as for preparing for surgery and speeding up recovery.

Preparation: Increase your general nutrition level, especially in regard to antioxidants and Omega-3 fatty acids. Beginning about 5 days before surgery, stop taking anything that is likely to make you bleed excessively. That includes aspirin, herbs such as Gingko Biloba, Vitamin E, and proteolytic enzymes.

After Surgery: Use superfoods to optimize nutrition and supplement with omega-3 fatty acids and antioxidants. Use a formula with avocado/soy unsaponifiables to stimulate collagen production, and a proteolytic enzyme formula to minimize scarring. And if you received antibiotics, then absolutely rebuild the beneficial bacteria (from your mouth to your anus) after surgery using a good probiotic formula.
