Everybody Start Eating! Obesity

Smartphones and Weight Gain

Researchers in Germany and Switzerland just announced that among patients who had received initial treatment for a specific type of heart attack (unstable angina/non-ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction), those that were obese or very obese were less than half as likely to die during the following three years as patients who were of normal weight.

Hey, everybody, let’s have a pint of Hagen Dazs.

Of course, as the researchers acknowledged that overweight people were more likely to suffer the original heart attack than normal weight people – as well as being at a higher risk of developing diabetes, hypertension, and coronary artery disease.

I guess we’ll be hearing from medical gurus soon enough that the best strategy to follow is:

  • Keep your weight down as close to normal as possible.
  • But the moment you get a heart attack, start packing that weight on.

Bottom line: this is simplistic research. As I’ve frequently pointed out, simply being thin does not necessarily make you healthier. www.jonbarron.org/weight-loss/natural-supplements-making-sense-of-obesity
