Suddenly the "superbug" MRSA (methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus) is in the news. Almost every day for the last couple of weeks, there have been a multiple stories focusing on the latest outbreak this antibiotic resistant bacteria. Although certainly not at Avian Flu levels of hysteria, it's getting more play than any bug since bird flu first hit the news two years ago. But while the media seems to have suddenly discovered MRSA, readers of the Baseline of Health® Newsletter learned all about this bacteria over a year and a half ago.
And even more importantly, readers learned how MRSA came into being and what they can do about it -- and any other superbug, for that matter.
Trust the media to be either late (MRSA) or early (Avian Flu) with a major health story -- and get it wrong to boot. In fact, as serious as MRSA may be, it's probably not the most immediate threat we face. No, I'm not talking about Bird Flu. The honor probably belongs to eXtreme Drug Resistant tuberculosis -- but where's the media on that story? Except for the flurry about the person who broke quarantine last may, it registers nary a blip on the radar.
